The Things that I Used to Do

Mick writes:

I first heard this song on a Chuck Berry album, and I still like that version. But it was originally a big hit for Eddie Jones.. 'Guitar Slim'.

Slim was a complete nutcase who put on a wild show, going out in the street and walking around on car roofs while playing on his long lead.. that kind of thing. A major influence on Buddy Guy and others, including me. I love the complete abandon in his playing.

So I've approached my version with as much abandon as I can muster, being a reserved and inhibited English boy from Surrey. I gave the vocal some Sun Studio type slap back and I stretched out on three verses of guitar solo which is a bit excessive but.. WTF.

Great song and I hope you enjoy it.. things I used to do.

Mick Clarke - The Things that I Used to Do The things that I used to do
well I won't do no more
The things that I used to do
yeah I ain't gonna do no more
I used to sit and hold your hand, baby
Cryin' begging you not to go

I would search all night for you, baby
yeah and my search would always be in vain
I would search all night for you, baby
But my search would always be in vain
But I knew all along, darling
That you was hid out with your other man

I'm going to send you back to your mother, baby
Lord, and I'm going back to my family, too
I'm going to send you back to your mother, baby
Lord, and I'm going back to my family, too
Nothing I ever do pleases you, darling
Lord I just can't get along with you
