My Own Fault

Releasing on all platforms Friday 16th January 2026.

Mick writes:

This song was written by John Lee Hooker, but BB King took it and made it something special - a beautiful slow blues which appeared on his 'My Kinda Blues' album - released in the UK as 'The R&B Soul of BB King' (covering all the bases there) with a suitably garish cover.

Actually my favourite version is by Otis Rush - a live version from the 'American Folk Blues Festival '66', the cover of which sits in a frame above my desk as I write. Beautiful - Otis at his best.

So it was a bit cheeky of Little Mick from Merton Park to take on such a classic. However, I quite like what I've done - it has a kind of melancholy which suits the song - and the Les Paul sounds nice.

It's the blues, man, the blues.. my own fault.

Mick Clarke - My Own Fault It's my own fault, baby
Treat me the way you wanna do
It's my own fault, baby
Treat me the way you wanna do
Yes, when you were loving me, baby
At that time, little girl, I didn't love you

She used to make her own pay checks
And bring them all home to me
I would go out on the hillside, you know
And make every woman drunk I see
It's my own fault, baby
Treat me the way you wanna do
Oh yes, when you were loving me, woman
At that time, little girl, I didn't love you

She said she was gonna leave me
She'd been running around with the boys
She said she was gonna leave me
Gonna be over in Illinois
And it's my own fault, baby
Treat me the way you wanna do
Oh, when you were loving me, woman
At that time, little girl, I didn't love you
