Kansas City

Releasing on all platforms Friday 24th October 2025.

Mick writes:

My version of the R&B classic, covered by everyone from Albert King to The Beatles. I particularly wanted to catch that lilting shuffle of the Wilbert Harrison original.. I think I got it.

And I kept Albert King's ending as a tribute to what is probably my favourite version. There's not a lot of Beatles influence.. they re-wrote the song quite a lot, although I think they did a great job.

Anyway it's a rockin' little shuffle.. Kansas City by Jerry Leiber amd Mike Stoller.

PS.. Just for fun, here's a version of Kansas City that we did with the MC Band on one of our Swiss tours, back in the 80s. It's distorted and chaotic but it certainly takes me back to the excitement of those times.

Lou Martin and Kerry Canfield share the keyboard, there's Chris Lloyd-Baron on harp, Mick Phillips on bass and Mike Hirsh on drums. Thanks to the late Markus Gygax for putting the trip together. Keep on rockin..

Mick Clarke - Kansas City I'm Goin' to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
Goin' to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
They got some crazy little women there
And I'm gonna get me one

Gonna be standin' on the corner
Twelfth Street and Vine
Gonna be standin' on the corner
Twelfth Street and Vine
With my Kansas City baby
And a bottle of Kansas City wine

Well, I might take the train
I might take a plane
But if I have to walk
I'm goin' just the same
Goin' to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
They got some crazy little women there
And I'm gonna get me one

Now, if I stay with that woman
I know I'm gonna die
Gotta find a brand new baby
That's the reason why
Goin' to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
They got some crazy little women there
And I'm gonna get me one
