Banker's Blues

Releasing on all platforms Friday 6th June 2025.

Mick writes:

Here's a song that brings back happy memories of my misspent youth. A couple of close friends of mine, Lou Martin and Rod De'Ath, had joined the Rory Gallagher Band, so I got to hang out back stage at many of his shows, (as well getting all the on-tour gossip).

Rory did a solo version of Big Bill Broonzy's 'Banker's Blues' and recorded it on the album 'Blueprint'. I also heard him play it many times on stage.

So my version is a cross between Big Bill's original and Rory's version, with a pumping shuffle added, and some soloing on my 1930s Harmony archtop. (A bit clunky.. well it's got a tough action!)

Great memories of happy days and rockin' nights - here's to Rory, Lou, Rod and the gang. I hope they approve.

Mick Clarke - Banker's Blues If You Got Money In The Bank
Don't Let Your Woman Draw It Out
Because She'll spend all Your Money
Then She Will Throw You Out

I once had money and a brand new car
But I let my baby know just where they are
And she took all my possessions...and then
And then she threw me out

She was The Cause Got Me Broke
How could she Be So Mean to me
Yeah she took All My Money
Give It To her No Good Man

Yeah I Had Had Money
But Now I'm Cold In Hand
And The Woman I was Loving
Living With Another Man
Ain't nothin left to lose
I got them banker's blues

Now young men, heed my advice
I'll tell you once, I may not tell you twice
Keep an eye on your old lady
anytime that she goes steppin' out

Well you know - that woman -
I believe she's gonna jump'n shout
And I walk down to the bank
And I draw all of my money out

If You Got Money In The Bank
Don't Let Your Woman Draw It Out
Because She'll take Your Money
Then She Will Throw You Out
