'As usual, Mick remains resolutely committed to preserving the very essence of his music. He does it relentlessly by delivering a blues interpretation that resonates with firmness, energy, and a deep dive into the muddy meanders of the Great Mississippi River'

Review from Blues Town Music, Netherlands by Peter Marinus

Mick Clarke is simply unstoppable! And we can only be happy about that as long as Mick releases one great blues rock release after another.

Now he comes with the EP 'The Blues, Man, The Blues'.

A title coming from Hound Dog Taylor. After he sighed “I Got It” during a concert and a fan asked what he had, the statement came The Blues, Man, The Blues…

The EP contains five covers and one of Mick's own songs. All songs on the EP are stripped of any kind of frills so that the pure raw essence of the blues remains.

Opening with the J.B. Lenoir cover 'I Sing Um The Way I Feel'. A song on which Mick has poured a boogie sauce with a nice unpolished result in which Mick's ingenious piercing guitar comes out well. The next cover is Howlin' Wolf's 'I Asked For Water', which sounds raw, brooding and funky with nasty biting guitar work this time.

'Doing The Best' I Can could be known for Elvis Presley's performance. The song was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Schuman and is in the hands of Mick Clarke, a lazily pumping blues in which Mick lets his guitar flame and scrape hard.

Then Mick's very own 'Mizzable Blues'. A lazy raw boogie, which stomps through nicely. Tampa Red's Baby Please Don't Throw Me Down has been put into a soggy boogie version with Mick's roaring slide guitar.

Finally, Mick Freddie King's 'Love Her With A Feeling' gives a very loving and soulful treatment.

A wonderful unpolished blues EP from Mick Clarke that eases the wait for the next Mick Clarke release. But knowing Mick Clarke we probably won't have to wait long for a next release

Track 1: 'I Sing Um the Way I Feel' now on rotation on BB King's Bluesville channel, Sirius XM - also the earlier single release 'Fine and Dandy'.

Hi -

Sad to read of the passing of blues guitar legend Dickey Betts. I went to see the Dickey Betts Band at The Starry Night, Portland Oregon, along with drummer Rod De'Ath, back in the 80s.

It was a great show - Dickey's playing was faultless.

Rod's step-daughter was named Jessica, and he wanted to get an autograph, so we caught Dickey backstage as he was leaving. My lasting memory is of a smiling Dickey, hatted and booted in his best cowboy gear, standing in the doorway of his tour bus getting ready to roll off into the night as they had numerous times before. A true Road Warrior. R.I.P. Dickey.

Meanwhile, many thanks to all who have streamed or downloaded my music over the years, or, indeed, purchased one of the excellent CD packages from BGO Records. Also to all those radio presenters who have played tracks - greatly appreciated.

I have a series of single releases lined up into 2024, so the music rolls on.. I hope you are enjoying it. Latest news includes my old 'See You Later Alligator' getting a week's run on 'Blues DeLuxe' and regular airplay of recent releases. 'Just Dropped In' is still doing very well on Pandora in the US - over a quarter of a million streams since its release in January.

A quick word for new listeners who might not be familiar with what I do. Who is this guy?

From 1968 I was a full time on the road blues rockin' guitar player with Killing Floor and then SALT, and then from the mid 80s led my own band, touring all over Europe, the US and beyond. These days I mainly enjoy making music in my own small recording studio here on the Surrey / Sussex border and releasing it online.

And while my first love will always be playing blues guitar, I also love putting together anything that takes my fancy, from garage rock to corny country songs. Happily it seems that people accept the twists and turns of my muse, most of the time.

Generally I try to give my 'official' albums a more focussed blues / rock direction. And with some success - the new 'The Blues, Man, Rides Again' made it to the No.1 spot on the Roots Music Report UK Airplay Chart.

So as I said, regular releases lined up for 2024... More news to follow. Blues guitarist Mick Clarke 72nd birthday - a beach in Sussex, England

Our music is available all over the world, but sadly I have to support major distributors Spotify and others in withdrawing their services from Russia as part of international sanctions until Ukraine is a free country once again. Apple - why am I being streamed in Moscow? Please sort yourselves out.

And finally - just to avoid confusion. There are, naturally enough, other Mick Clarkes out there - notably Mick Clarke of the Rubettes and Mick Clarke, guitarist with Long John Baldry, who has the dot.Net website.

So please be sure of whom you're listening to, particularly on Youtube and Facebook. I rarely post anything on 'Social Media' these days, other than the occasional announcement of new releases. Generally the best source of info is right here on mickclarke.com. Do check in regularly!
