One of my very oldest friends, Gerard Ring, ' Geb' passed away on Wednesday 16th March 2023. Geb was one of the first bass players I ever worked with - we found him through an ad in the Melody Maker music publication (below) when we were looking for a new bass player for our school blues band. Geb kept the cutting.

And Geb was a fine player.. a student of John Mcvie's work with Mayall and Fleetwood Mac, and we could even jam a fair version of 'Vietcong Blues' with Geb doing a more than adequate Jack Myers on the bass, to my questionable Buddy Guy impression. Geb went on to a successful career as, I think, a probations officer, but returned to the bass later in life, recording the 'A&E' album with my friend Bill from Killing Floor. And he was a lovely, intelligent guy as well. We didn't always stay in touch but could always pick up right where we left off. Rest in peace Geb.
